Thousands of freshly minted Nye Beach Sand Dollars were invested in the surf zone to become "real beach glass." The hard grains of quartz and feldspar rich sands from coastal rivers and the Columbia combine with local miocene sedimentary sandstones and constant wave action to enhance the value of each sand dollar over time.
